This temple has further been divided into two phases (J2 and J3, see I. Finkelstein et al., Megiddo III, pg 38 ff). Pottery recovered from the probes conducted by Finklestein consist of sherds only. These include “Chalcolithic cornets and grey-burnished forms.” (I. Finkelstein et al., Megiddo III, pg 55). Finkelstein interprets this Chalcolithic pottery as brick debris and therefore argues that the shrine dates to the latter part of the EB I period.
