We use the travelogues and excavation reports of early explorers and archaeologists to introduce the ancient places; and the accumulation of layers in the ancient mounds to mark time. Texts and artifacts, the remnants of ancient civilizations, provide a window into their history and culture. A timeline brings together in one place the chronologies of the ancient world. Collections of artifacts from museums around the world provide insight into how technologies and styles have developed over time and in various places.
We will continue to update and expand the course and timeline and add to our collections on a regular basis. Feedback and corrections are welcome.
Contributors
Andrew completed a B.A. in European History at the University of Calgary and an M.A. in Ancient Near Eastern History at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. His field experience includes numerous archaeological digs in the Middle East and, more recently, in Armenia. Andrew comes to the subject of history and archaeology with a background in architectural and industrial design. He has spent many years travelling to museums and exploring ancient sites with the goal of writing a history of the ancient world that encompasses the major regions of the Ancient Near East.
